Photos: Group helping transform home for wounded warrior

Whitney Spurgeon was wounded while serving in Iraq. Volunteers are making his home more accessible.

NEWPORT NEWS-A group of men and women have made it their mission to help wounded servicemembers and their families and families when loved ones are deployed.

Operation Homefront of the Virginias says demand is higher than ever.

The group is helping people like SSG Whitney Spurgeon, who was wounded while serving his second tour in Iraq. He returned to Hampton Roads with shoulder and back injuries and burns to his lungs. He also needed knee and ankle reconstruction. He's had 12 surgeries and has another scheduled for August.

Volunteers are making his home more accessible and the work is made possible by the tireless work of Operation Homefront and your donations.

The group raised money over the weekend with a big 5K Run for the Homefront race.
