NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) Several Norfolk State University students reached out to 13News Now about a roach issue that they say they have been dealing with for months.

"They come out of the holes, out of the shower, in our rooms," said one student.

The students sent pictures and photos to 13News Now that show the cockroaches in the hallway of the Babbette Smith dorm hall.

"We contacted many people and they keep telling us there's nothing we can do about it, they keep telling us to go buy raid, and i'm just tired of spraying stuff," said another student.

Officials with the university say they are aware of the issue and are working through it.  NSU spokesperon Stan Donaldson says that a clean and safe environment is top priority and that each time students have alerted the housing office about the issue, a call has been put out to get the area sprayed.

Donaldson did not have exact records of how many times the building has been treated this semester.

"It's to the point where you are like scared to open your drawer or go to the bathroom because you don't want to crawl out in front of you," said a student.

Donaldson says the university is working to fix the cockroach issue permanently.
