NORFOLK -- People have asked to see something done about the crumbling former concert venue next to Harbor Park for years. Monday, they finally saw results.
The city of Norfolk is demolishing the Boathouse after letting the building they call a safety threat - sit for several months.
The vacant venue visibly started deteriorating back in June, but the city didn't have the funds to tear it down.
After the Fire Marshall and City Attorney looked into the issue in September, they decided to prioritize the demolition.
City spokesperson Lori Crouch tells 13News there was evidence of repeated trespassing, and the city acknowledged that the building was unsafe and an 'attractive nuisance.'
'You can see it's not structurally sound. The Boathouse of the good old days is no longer,' said Crouch.
As of now, there are no plans for the Boathouse or the plot of land. They will keep the area fenced off after tearing down the roof and structural support.
