RICHMOND, Va. — A Norfolk man was arrested by Capitol Police for revenge porn against a woman who was working for a member of the General Assembly.
23-year-old William Tyler Sims was already in a Virginia Beach jail for an unrelated DUI conviction when he was charged on seven warrants related to the revenge porn investigation.
According to Capitol Police, on January 17, 2018, a member of the General Assembly received sexually suggestive messages and images of the victim, who was serving as an intern for the member at the time.
The images came from the victim's email and were purportedly sent by her.
But investigators said the person who was using the email was actually William Sims, who was the victim's estranged husband.
Sims is charged with:
- 3 counts of harassment by computer for sending three emails to the General Assembly member
- 2 counts of computer trespass for the unauthorized use of the victim's email
- 2 of unlawful dissemination or sale of images of another
All seven charges are misdemeanors, each of which is punishable by up to one year in prison and a $2,500 fine.
