NEWPORT NEWS (AP) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries says its Newport News Shipbuilding division has been awarded a contract worth nearly $119 million to work on the Navy's submarine fleet.

The contract is for work on Los Angeles-class, Seawolf-class, Virginia-class and Ohio-class submarines, special mission submersible interfaces, submarine support facilities and related programs. The work ranges from engineering and design to modernization support, and it is expected to continue through next September.

Newport News Shipbuilding is one of only two U.S. shipyards capable of building nuclear-powered submarines and has completed more than 200 ship repair projects for the U.S. government since the early 1990s.
