NEWPORT NEWS-- A woman has been charged after she and someone else allegedly abducted and robbed a driver who was cleaning out his car at a 7-Eleven.

Police charged 34-year-old Rekita Charmaine Carpenter of the 1000 block of 27th Street with Robbery, Carjacking, and Abduction.

Officers say at about 4 a.m. Friday, a 24-year-old from Newport News was cleaning garbage out of his car at the 7-Eleven at 9903 Jefferson Avenue when Carpenter and a man approached him.

According to police, Carpenter had a knife and demanded the victim drive them to the bank to withdraw money. She allegedly indicated the man with her had a gun.

Police say the victim drove the suspects to a bank in Hampton. When he was unable to withdraw money, he drove to a second bank and successfully withdrew cash.

Carpenter allegedly told the victim to drop them off at Riverwalk Apartments and then stole the victim's cell phone and driver's license.

'As long as you out this neighborhood, everybody knows everybody, you know,' William Fogle told 13News. 'We all try to look out for each other, but when you're doing stupid stuff, you're on your own.'

Fogle and others said Carpenter's face is a familiar one in the area.

Carpenter was arrested Sunday near Adams and Dresden Drive.

Carpenter had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court and was also charged with drug possession.
