Newport News police release drawing of man they think assaulted teen

Police are looking for a man who assaulted a 17-year old girl behind an abandoned house on 29th Street.

NEWPORT NEWS Police released a composite sketch late Tuesday of a man they think was responsible for an assault of a teenage girl.

Police also believe the same man is responsible for four other incidents involving victims from age 16 to 23. The incidents occurred at the following dates and places:

June 19th in the 900 block of 22nd Street

July 24th in the 2900 block of Orcutt Avenue

July 26th in the 2900 block of Orcutt Avenue

November 22nd in the 700 block of 29th Street

A teenage girl was reportedly sexually assaulted while walking to her school bus stop Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the 700 block of 29th Street about 6:10 a.m. According to Special Victims Unit detectives, an unknown man approached the girl with a handgun and forced her behind an abandoned house.

The man, who had his face covered except for his eyes, inappropriately touched the victim and threatened to hurt her if she told anyone.

The man left the teen behind the house. She later ran home.

Detectives believe thesuspect may be responsible forthree other assaults. One happened in June on 22nd Street andtwo were in July on Orcutt Avenue. Victims age in range from 16 to 23.
