Newport News police chief announces retirement

Chief James Fox joined the force in 2004 and has held his current position for nine years. He is set to retire on September 1.

NEWPORT NEWS- Newport News Police Chief James Fox announced his retirement Wednesday.

Chief Fox joined the force in 2004 and has held his current position for nine years.

According to a police spokesman, since 2006, crime has decreased every year in the city of Newport News.

Chief Fox is also credited for acquiring state of the art equipment for the force.

In a letter to his department, Chief Fox said, 'It has been a great privilege and honor to be a part of this great organization and to be the Chief of Police for one of the best police agencies in the world.'

Chief Fox's last day will be September 1.
