NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A new branch of the Norfolk Public Library is opening Thursday.
Everyone is invited to the grand opening of the Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch Library at Broad Creek at 10:15 a.m.
The new library offers a children's patio, a children's art room, a reading terrace, meeting rooms, study rooms, public computers and more.
The building is located adjacent to the recently opened Richard Bowling Elementary School. The new library is very kid-focused with a Playscape and Kid Zone. The playscape is a stimulating environment for climbing, sliding, and crawling.
The KidZone features an interactive space that encourages playful discovery, early literacy development and enhanced learning for children and parents.
"I am so proud of our City to invest in and promote lifelong learning through this beautiful and dynamic building for our residents. We are also excited to honor the heritage and legacy of the Jordan and Newby families by incorporating their names into the new facility" Sonal Rastogi, Director of Libraries, NPL, said in a press release.
The Broad Creek Anchor Branch of the Norfolk Public Library system's second anchor branch location. According to officials, the Jordan-Newby Library will be closing in the near future.
The new library was named after Judge Joseph A. Jordan and Dr. Thomas Newby.
