NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) has announced a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new bus terminal.

The bus terminal is nearly complete, with the ceremony set for Jan. 8, 2016 at 11 a.m.

In a statement to riders, HRT said "Everyone is welcome to attend and check out the new facility at 434 St. Paul's Blvd."

The downtown Norfolk transit center has interior space for bus passengers to wait when it is cold or raining, public restrooms, a customer service desk and a breakroom for street supervisors and operators.

Each of the 14 routes that will service the center has a designated stop, so customers will no longer have to chase their bus when it arrives.

The new terminal has vending machines, benches (inside and outside), lighting in the evening, improved security and is within walking distance to the Tide's Monticello station.

Revenue service begins Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016.
