VIRGINIA BEACH -- An 18th Century home was picked up and moved to make way for 21st Century improvements.
Princess Anne Road near Witchduck Road is being widened to four lanes, so to save the historic building, the owner and the Va. Beach Historic Preservation Commission came up with a way to save it - by moving it across Lord Dunmore.
Attorney Ed Halloran purchased the house in1991 as a way topreserve the history of the area.
Kemps Landing wasthe Princess Anne County seat from the 1700s until the mid-1950s.
'Well the area is being rezoned the Kempsville Historic Districtthat anticipates being a small Williamsburg.It will start as a Ghent type approach to things,' Halloran said as he watched the home be lifted, moved and reset.
The home will be the centerpiece for the new historic district.
