NORFOLK, Va. — The Naval Criminal Investigative Service its reward to $2,500 on information regarding bomb threats at Norfolk Naval Shipyard on Feb. 14.
It was a day of chaos and confusion. Thousands of employees were inconvenienced.
The threatening messages were written on a bathroom wall stating "Bomb 0900 Today HaHaHa!"
NCIS provided photos of the written bathroom messages.
As a precautionary measure, a small area was evacuated.
In the end, it was more of a nuisance than an actual danger.
At 10:48 a.m. on the same day, there were reports of an active shooter in a building.
"Lockdown Lockdown Lockdown," the shipyard wrote on Facebook. "This is NOT a drill."
Portsmouth police sent a SWAT team to investigate, while thousands of civilian workers and sailors were told to shelter in place.
The shipyard's main campus is spread over 585 acres and includes 201 buildings.
Dozens of shipyard workers waited outside the gate as several ambulances, police cars and fire trucks drove in and out.
Several workers told 13 News Now that they initially thought the threats were part of a drill.
Now, investigators are asking for help.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service its reward Thursday to $2,500 for information on the case.
Anyone with any information is encouraged to call 757-444-7327.
