VIRGINIA BEACH -- A pilot stationed at Naval Air Station Oceana has been arrested on charges relating to an alleged online relationship with a 13-year-old Bedford County girl.
Daniel Chase Harris, 30, is charged with multiple counts of using an electronic communications device to facilitate offenses against children, as well as extortion.
Harris is an active-duty pilot serving at the Strike Fighter Weapons School Atlantic at Oceana, officials told 13News Now.
According to the Bedford Sheriff's Office, Harris threatened the girl to coerce her into sending him sexually explicit images of herself.
Investigators from Bedford County Sheriff's Office, Virginia Beach Police Department, and Naval Criminal Investigative Services, and members of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at Harris' residence in Virginia Beach on November 12.
Harris was taken into custody based on evidence gathered during the search, authorities said.
Additional charges are pending.
Harris is currently being held without bond in Virginia Beach and is awaiting transfer to the Bedford Adult Detention Center.
