Virtual hiring fair for military spouses across the nation, hosted by the U.S Department of Defense

Throughout the sessions spouses get the opportunity to work with professionals to improve their resume, networking techniques, negotiating tactics, and more.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Department of Defense is hosting a virtual hiring fair for military spouses, to help them connect with hiring managers and representatives from more than 700 employers.

It's part of a series of free virtual events, including a symposium, and webinar series, that started May 14 and runs until May 30. The events throughout the month aimed to assist military spouses in achieving their career goals.

Throughout the sessions spouses get the opportunity to work with professionals to improve their resume, master networking techniques, tips to navigate through remote work, negotiation tactics, and more.

"The success of our military is related to the strength and stability of our families, and the stability of our families depends on military spouses having access to quality employment," said Patricia Montes Barron, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Military Community and Family Policy.

The DOD's Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program put these events together to focus on addressing unemployment among the nation's military spouses. According to the DOD, the unemployment rate for active-duty spouses seeking work stands at nearly 21%.

The Military Spouse Employment Partnership Virtual Hiring Fair, scheduled for May 29-30 is at 10 a.m., to 2 p.m.

All events are free and accessible to military spouses across the globe via the Zoom platform. More information can be found here.
