Virginia Beach pays tribute to Hampton Roads veterans

The parade on Monday featured a flyover by the Military Aviation Museum and more than 100 units from World War II, Korea, Desert Storm, and more.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The 2024 Tidewater Veterans Day Parade wrapped up Monday morning in Virginia Beach to honor veterans of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The event, organized by the Hampton Roads Council of Veterans Organizations, celebrated the rich history of military service of all branches.

Officials said the Military Aviation Museum participated in a flyover for the parade, while more than 100 units from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom marched through the streets.

“It just feels really good that no matter where we go in America there’s always a parade celebrating the veterans which I think really speaks to this country and how good of a job we do taking care of our veterans,” said Bailey Doolittle.

Gerald Anderson, a Retired Navy Chief and Operation Desert Storm Veteran said he was moved by the day’s events.

“I’m glad to have my wife and kids for the majority of my career to experience the places that we’ve gone and served,” said Anderson.

After 22 years of service, Anderson reflected on the strong bonds and friendships he formed during his career and his family.

The parade concluded at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial with a formal ceremony.
