WASHINGTON — U.S. Navy ships came under attack Friday in the Red Sea.
Iranian-backed Houthi militants said they targeted three U.S. destroyers with missiles and drones. The Houthis' navy, air force, and missile force reportedly launched 23 projectiles.
The Pentagon's Deputy Press Secretary said there was no damage to any of the three American vessels or personnel in the area.
"We did see a complex attack launched by the Houthis that ranged from cruise missiles and UAVs. My understanding is that those were either engaged and shot down or failed, but at no time did any hit a U.S. ship," said Sabrina Singh.
She added: "We did what we had to do to protect our forces."
Singh did not say which ships were involved in the incident. The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is currently stationed in the region.
