PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Following a nearly two-month deployment, Portsmouth-based U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Cutter Seneca (WMEC 906) is expected to return home Friday.
The 60-day deployment spanned the Western Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean.
During that time, crew members assisted in patrolling the waters alongside other USCG cutters, the Joint Interagency Task Force-South, Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security units and international partners.
The cutter's missions typically deal with homeland security, fisheries law enforcement, counterdrug operations, migrant interdiction, and search and rescue.
Before Portsmouth was Seneca's home base, the 270-foot cutter was based in Boston for 33 years.
The Seneca is the sixth of 13 Famous Class Medium Endurance Cutters and was commissioned in 1987.
