HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- State ID's from Oregon, Missouri, and Minnesota will once again be acceptable forms of identification to get past the gates at Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
This comes after a deadline passed on Monday for those states to meet new federal requirements for identification, known as Real ID.
The Real ID Act, which went into effect last month, is beginning to enforce updates to all state-level identification in the form of security features like machine-readable data chips.
Many states that are lagging behind in the technology are under review and were given a deadline extension, but that did not apply to Oregon, Missouri, and Minnesota. On Monday night, the Department of Homeland Security granted those states an extension of October 10, 2017.
All licenses must comply with the new standards by 2020.
Virginia and North Carolina are in the process of making their IDs compliant. Virginia says it will roll out compliant licenses and state ID cards by October 2018, while North Carolina began production of compliant IDs back in May.

Remember, you can still use a military ID, U.S. passport, or a permanent resident card to get on the base.
