USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) transits the Elizabeth River on Dec. 17, 2023, going from Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth to Naval Station Norfolk.

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group will depart Norfolk next week for a regularly scheduled deployment, according to a U.S. Fleet Forces media advisory.

More than 6,500 sailors are assigned to the strike group, which includes the flagship USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75); Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 with nine embarked aviation squadrons; staffs from Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 8, CVW-1, and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 28; the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64); and two Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, USS Stout (DDG 55) and USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109).

The carrier strike group returned home to Naval Station Norfolk in 2022 after its most recent deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Truman will depart Monday from Naval Station Norfolk, with the entire strike group deploying by Wednesday.
