NORFOLK, Va. — A Norfolk man who served in the Navy was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison for sending threatening messages to other sailors, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.

According to the department, 23-year-old Justin Leung victimized at least five women, including threats to "kidnap, violently rape, and humiliate them or their female relatives through the degradation of their bodies."

The threats happened after the women rejected Leung's romantic advances. Many of the victims were active-duty sailors or Navy veterans, the DOJ said.

Leung was also accused of sending unwanted and threatening messages to the victims over the internet, including obscene messages, as well as misogynistic remarks.

"At least one victim felt fearful enough to take protective measures as a direct result of Leung’s threats," the DOJ wrote in a news release.

Leung’s phone records reveal misogynistic statements like “women bring nothing to the table except what there[sic] bodies have to offer” and women “shouldn’t be allowed to choose [their partners].”
