WASHINGTON D.C., DC — A new bill in the House of Representatives aims to close the gap on Veterans Affairs home loan benefits for members of the National Guard and Reserves.
Virginia Second District Congresswoman Jen Kiggans said the current law has made it harder for certain National Guard troops and members of the Reserves to get full credit for the time they served, and to access the home loan benefits they earned.
"We have such a large veteran population in the 2nd District, so they reach out with some frequency," Kiggans said. "When we hear from them that they're being denied things like home loans, we look to ways that we can rectify that, and this was really an easy solution."
Kiggans' "Expanding Home Loans for Guard and Reservists Act" would fix the problem by expanding eligibility for VA home loan benefits to service members in the National Guard and Reserves to be "on par" with other members of the U.S. military.
