VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — It’s mission accomplished for the Navy!
Last week, 13News Now reported on a critical shortage of civilian police officers facing the Navy Region Mid-Atlantic. Following our story, the Navy held a job fair over the weekend, and it was a big success.
The Navy told 13News Now that they had 127 job applicants show up. Of them, the Navy tendered 75 tentative job offers.
The breakdown is 61 police officers at Little Creek Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads and Naval Air Station Oceana.
Additionally, they were able to make tentative job offers to 13 dispatchers and one security guard.
The hiring fair was Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The jobs' starting pay could range from $40,000 to $65,000, and there was a hiring incentive bonus of up to $20,000.
