Navy Mid-Atlantic introduces remote counseling for active-duty service members, families

According to the Navy, the offered services are non-medical and short-term, focused on support and guidance addressing various challenges people may encounter.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Navy Region Mid-Atlantic has introduced remote counseling services to support active-duty service members and their families.

The service will be offered to individuals, couples, and families through the region's Fleet and Family Support Centers, to ensure they "receive the necessary assistance regardless of their location or circumstances," the Navy said in a news release.

The Navy announced the service on Monday, another step in the military branch's efforts to improve the quality of life following two clusters of sailor suicides. Some of the other changes recently announced include a pilot Wi-Fi program at 12 Hampton Roads barracks and healthier food options for sailors.

According to the Navy, the offered services are non-medical and short-term, focusing on support and guidance to address various challenges people may encounter.

"These challenges include but are not limited to issues related to deployment, relocation, relationship dynamics, parent-child interactions, and other stressors associated with military and family life," the Navy wrote in a news release.

The sessions are over Microsoft Teams and are free to active-duty service members and their families. Those interested in scheduling an appointment can call 1-855-205-6749.
