VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — For 78 years, the Navy's elite Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, have thrilled audiences all over the world, performing for more than 500 million spectators since 1946.
Now, they'll show their stuff on the big screen.
The really big screen.
"The Blue Angels" movie premieres in IMAX theaters May 17 through 23, followed by a global streaming release on Prime Video. The documentary puts viewers in the cockpit for a firsthand view of the group's precision flying.
"This is the first time that we're going to get to share details of what it's like to be a Blue Angel," said Lieutenant Commander Monica "Doc" Borza of Virginia Beach.
From 2020 to 2022, the Virginia Tech graduate served as the fourth female physician in history to be the Flight Surgeon for the Blue Angels. She directly supported over 6,000 flight hours that resulted in 560 flight demonstrations at 68 cities across the United States and Canada.
"We are very honored to be able to have that opportunity to touch that many lives. And we hope that inspires others to follow their dreams.," she said in an interview with 13 News Now.
The film's producers are "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" producer J.J. Abrams, and "Top Gun: Maverick" actor Glen Powell.
Look up and buy tickets on the IMAX website. If you miss the movie, no problem. You can see the Blue Angels in person at the annual Oceana Air Show in September.
