HAMPTON, Va. — Possible high honors are on the horizon for one local military base.

Langley Air Force Base has been selected by the Department of Defense (DOD) as a finalist for the Commander in Chief Award for Installation Excellence.

In 1985, President Ronald Reagan established the award to recognize the outstanding and innovative efforts of those who operate and maintain DOD installations.

Langley is one of two Air Force finalists this year.

The winning installation will receive an Installation Excellence trophy, an Installation Excellence flag, a congratulatory letter from the president, and $1.25 million for quality-of-life improvements.

“This recognition reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment of every member of Team JBLE,” said U.S Air Force Colonel Matthew Altman, JBLE Installation Commander. “It’s a tremendous honor to be selected as a finalist, and it speaks to the unparalleled teamwork that defines this installation.”
