Gov. Glenn Youngkin sends $5 million to support military installations across the Commonwealth

The funding is the Youngkin Administration's latest effort to show support for Virginia's veterans.

NORFOLK, Va. — Gov. Glenn Youngkin is sending millions of dollars to military installations in the Commonwealth, he announced Thursday night. The governor made this announcement at his packed "Secure Your Vote" event in Norfolk.

The funding is the Youngkin Administration's latest effort to show support for Virginia's veterans.

The $5 million in funds are allocated through the Virginia Military Community Infrastructure Grant Program. It supports communities in upgrading infrastructure at installations.

Some of those cities are right here in Hampton Roads. Take a look:

Hampton will receive funds to construct a new joint-use firing range, which will replace two deficient and poorly located ranges.

Newport News will get funds for a project supporting Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. It aims to improve the Hardwood's Mill Reservoir Dam, as well as add flood protection.

Virginia Beach's funds will support Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story and Naval Air Station Oceana. The money will help replace deteriorated infrastructure at Creeds Law Enforcement Training Facility, which Virginia Beach and military members often use.

"And I will say this with great clarity: when our veterans stay in Virginia, Virginia is so much better," Youngkin said.

The governor took the opportunity to remind people to get out and vote, too.

"You know how to get the vote out, but that's what we got to do. We've got to get the vote out," Youngkin said.

He also visited the Yorktown Freight Shed to remind people to vote on Tuesday.

When asked about his own potential run for president? He said right now, he's only thinking about taking care of Virginians.
