NORFOLK, Va. — The Department of Defense said it is testing an expansion of commissary shopping privileges to civilian employees who work for the DOD.
The pilot program is being rolled out at select commissary stores beginning December 5 and will last for 120 days.
The following commissaries in Virginia will be participating:
- Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren
- Joint Base Langley-Eustis (Fort Eustis and Langley Air Force Base commissaries)
- Fort Gregg-Adams
- Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story (Little Creek Commissary)
- Naval Base Norfolk
- Naval Air Station Oceana
- Norfolk Naval Ship Yard (Portsmouth)
The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) said all civilian employees (appropriated and non-appropriated) with DOD identification will be allowed to shop at the participating commissaries. The pilot program is testing the feasibility of expanding commissary access to these employees at all stateside commissaries.
DeCA said the expanded access does not extend to civilian employee family members and former or retired DOD civilian employees. It also does not include tobacco or alcohol products or online shopping privileges.
In addition to the Virginia locations, other participating commissaries are:
- Alaska: Eielson Air Force Base
- California: Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and Fort Irwin
- Georgia: Marine Corps Logistical Base Albany and Robins Air Force Base
- Maryland: Naval Air Station Patuxent River
- Oklahoma: Altus Air Force Base
- Texas: Laughlin Air Force Base
