PORTSMOUTH -- Homicide detectives are searching for the person or people responsible for killing 23-year-old Delante X. Eley Tuesday night in Churchland.
'They took someone, someone's child away. Mine. Mine,a and it hurts. I don't want to see anyone else to go through this. I really don't,'said Eley's mother, Shelita. 'If anybody know anything, it's not called snitching or anything. Please, let someone know, because he didn't deserve be taken the way he did.'
Someone shot Eley in the 4000 block of Ketch Drive, just down the road from the home where he lived with his grandparents.
Police got several calls about gunfire at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. People said a black car raced out of the neighborhood shortly afterwards.
A family member told 13News Now the victim was shot in the face.
'I want to know whoever hurt him, to let 'em know that not only did they hurt him, but they hurt his family, friends. They took him away from us,' said Shelita Eley. 'I don't know what to do, but thankGod we got a good family, and we're gonna hold tight, and let 'em know they didn't break this up. You only made us stronger.'
Eley's family (which includes his 5-year-old daughter) will hold a vigil Thursday night where he died on Ketch Drive. People plan to gather at 6:00 p.m.
Police are looking for a dark-colored Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis, displaying temporary tags, in connection with this homicide investigation.
The vehicle could be a dark blue, dark green, dark gray or black.
The driver of the vehicle is described as a dark-skinned black male with plats or twists in his hair. The passenger in the vehicle is described as a light-skinned black male with dreadlocks.
Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
