NORFOLK (AP) -- Virginia transportation officials will hold public hearings next month to discuss alternative solutions for the Interstate 64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
The Virginia Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are preparing an environmental impact statement as part of the study on area transportation needs.
Officials say the transportation needs identified in this study are insufficient capacity to accommodate travel demand, as well as deficiencies of the existing roadway, tunnels and bridges. The study evaluates the impact on residential and business properties, parks, historic properties, wetlands, wildlife habitat, and economic considerations.
Meetings are from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Granby High School in Norfolk and on Jan. 24 at St. Mary Star of the Sea School on N. Willard Ave. in Hampton.
