HAMPTON - Police in Hampton say a man, his wife, daughter and her grandmother died in an domestic dispute, officer-involved shooting and house fire.
Police were called to Ravenscroft Lane around 4:00 a.m. Wednesday and found Carla Williams in the street. She had been shot, stabbed and burned. Williams died at the hospital, said Cpl. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Dept.
As officers approached the home, they exchanged gunfire with a man on the roof. Her estranged husband, 38-year old Travis Williams of Virginia Beach, was hit then taken to the hospital.
Firefighters battled smoke and flames in the home and found the bodies of 76-year-old Katie Frye, Carla's grandmother, and her one-year-old daughter Tori.
Wednesday afternoon, the Newport News School system issued a statement on the passing of Carla Williams, who served as the instructional supervisor for the English as a Second Language program.
'The Newport News Public School family is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Carla Williams, her daughter and her grandmother. Ms. Williams was a dedicated educator who served the students and staff of the school district since 1997, ' the statement read.
Shaye Southall said Travis Williams was his best friend.
'I talk to him almost every other day. He called me last night. I didn't get up, missed the call,' said Southall.
Online court documents indicate that Travis and Carla Williams were in the middle of a divorce and had just had a hearing on Monday.
Meantime, there will be four investigations into the incident - one will focus on the fire's cause, one on the domestic dispute and two on the officer-involved shooting. One will be an internal investigation and the other a criminal investigation, Cpl. Price added.
The officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave until the investigations are complete.
Police said they'd been called to the home four times in January - twice for domestic assault and a domestic problem, larceny report and advising a caller of the law.
