NORTHAMPTON, Va. — A teacher at Occohannock Elementary School in Northampton County won $2,500 from the Virginia Lottery.

Rachel Powell, a third-grade teacher, won the cash through the lottery's Thank a Teacher campaign. Powell's win awards the school $2,500 in supplies from The Supply Room.

Through the Thank a Teacher campaign, Virginia teachers receive a thank you note with a code to enter for a chance to win the grand prize.

The Virginia Lottery partnered with The Supply Room, IGT and NeoPollard Interactive to celebrate teachers who work hard and inspire students.

In 2024, over 130,000 thank-you notes were sent to teachers across Virginia. Each thank you note features artwork by the Thank a Teacher Art Contest winners.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Northampton County received more than $1.8 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
