YORKTOWN, Va. — When the Food Network's Kid Baking Championship returns for its 12th season in January, a young baker from Yorktown will be one of the contestants. Jaime Lee, 11, will put her baking skills to the test when she goes head-to-head with other kid bakers for a chance to win the$25,000 grand prize.
Beyond her love for baking, Lee told the Food Network she also loves cats, noting that her nickname is "Jaime Cat."
The Virginia native will be one of a dozen young bakers challenged with creating the tastiest sweet treats inspired by the best parts of the school year.
"From picture day portrait cakes to blondies that celebrate the most popular recess game, hopscotch, and to cafeteria lunch dessert imposters, they must showcase their baking knowledge by making the most delicious and visually-stunning treats imaginable," according to the Food Network.
The first challenge of the Valerie Bertinelli and Duff Goldman-hosted competition will require the young bakers to create a cake with an edible photo and emoji designs that reflect the child's personal hobbies.
The final two episodes air on Monday, Feb 26 and will feature a showdown between the remaining four bakers. They will be asked to show their school spirit in a tie-dye doughnut and ice cream competition. The bakers heading off to the grand finale will have to create a volcano cake inspired by a school science fair, with organizers saying, "not only do the cakes need to look realistic, but they must erupt too!"
“School serves as a social hub, a space for learning, and a nurturing ground where children face challenges and foster growth – making it the ideal theme for the new season of Kids Baking Championship. The new challenges capture the essence of the school experience with every dessert,” said Betsy Ayala, Head of Content, Food, Warner Bros. Discovery.
The Kids Baking Championship winner will not only be treated to a $25,000 grand prize but will also earn a spot in Food Network Magazine and be crowned the "Kids Baking Champion."
The show's 12th season will premiere at 8 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2024.
