YORKTOWN, Va. — Investigators have arrested a Newport News man who is accused of shooting at a vehicle with people inside in the Yorktown area Tuesday evening.
York-Poquoson Sheriff Ron Montgomery told 13News Now that law enforcement tracked 28-year-old Domonique Marcell Mills to Goldsboro, North Carolina, where he was arrested Thursday morning. He faces several felony and misdemeanor charges, including three counts each of abduction, attempted maiming and the use and display of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The investigation began around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies responded to the 100 block of Rivermeade Court, close to Goosley Road and U.S. Highway 17, for reports of a shooting at an occupied vehicle.
When deputies got there, they found the vehicle that had been shot and three people inside: a 27-year-old woman and her two children, an 8-year-old and a 1-year-old.
Sheriff Montgomery said it wasn't a random act and that Mills knew the family in the car.
“There was some type of relationship between the suspect and the people in the vehicle. I don’t know the extent of it, but I know that he knew these people in the car," he said.
None of them were struck by gunfire, but the sheriff's office said there were at least three bullet holes in the car.
