York County student accused of threatening to shoot up high school

Another student saw the threat made on social media and immediately reported it.

YORKTOWN, Va. — A York County high school student is accused of threatening to shoot up a school.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office said a 17-year-old who attends Tabb High School is now in custody. The FBI alerted the sheriff's office after another student on Tuesday saw the threat online and reported it to the social media platform it had been posted on.

Police said the social media company informed the FBI, who worked with the sheriff's office to detain the student.

The 17-year-old is now charged with threats of death or bodily injury to persons on school property.

The York-Poquoson sheriff commended the student who made the original report and urged everyone who hears or sees a threat or concern to report it to law enforcement.
