How to look up your sample ballot for Virginia's 2023 elections

Virginia cities and counties across Hampton Roads have sample ballots that show which candidates are running in each jurisdiction for the Nov. 7 election.

NORFOLK, Va. — As Virginians prepare to cast their ballots in the November 2023 general elections, we're helping voters across Hampton Roads be informed about which races and candidates will appear on their ballots.

This year, every seat in Virginia’s General Assembly is up for election. That means two state-level elections will be on the ballot for every voter across Hampton Roads — one for Virginia Senate and one for the Virginia House of Delegates.

November 7 is also the first election under new Virginia General Assembly district boundaries based on the 2020 U.S. Census — so it's likely your districts have changed since the last election. You can use the Virginia Department of Elections online portal to find which districts you live in and your voting location.

VOTER GUIDE: Virginia's 2023 elections are Tuesday. Here's a look at races, candidates, voter registration info and more.

In addition to the state-level elections, there are numerous municipal races for school boards, boards of supervisors, and more across Hampton Roads. Residents in Gloucester County will also be asked to vote on a capital improvements bond referendum.

In Virginia, there is no state-run centralized website to view sample ballots. Instead, the voter registrar in each city and county is likely to have sample ballots on their websites. Here's where to find them.
