NORFOLK, Va. — Flags are flying at half-staff on Friday in remembrance of a former Virginia senator.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced Thursday that flags should be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth from Friday at sunrise until sunset.
It is to be done "in memory and respect" of former Virginia Senator Frank M. Ruff, Jr. who died on Oct. 26, 2024. He was elected in 2023 but resigned from his Senate seat to receive treatment for kidney cancer.
"We honor his three decades of unwavering commitment to serving the Commonwealth," Gov. Glenn Youngkin said. "Senator Ruff's dedication has shaped policies and initiatives that will be felt across the Commonwealth not for years—but generations to come, establishing a lasting legacy that reflects his profound impact on the community."
