Williamsburg Pottery proposes new theme park, nothing formally submitted

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WVEC) -- It's another case of not in my backyard.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WVEC) -- It's another case of not in my backyard.

Williamsburg residents are up in arms about the possibility of a new theme park coming to town.

Right now it's just an idea by the Williamsburg pottery, but Williamsburg residents like Dianna Anderson are trying to put this idea of a new theme park to bed.

“There are local businesses and houses that would be negatively affected,” Anderson says. “You can go to Busch Gardens and Water Country and have your day of fun.”

KingsLand USA is a proposed multi-purpose attraction which would include a theme park, water park, hotels and more.

“For them to say let's build a huge park, virtual reality, I don't think we need it,” Anderson says.

But, officials with York County and James City County say nothing has been formally submitted by anyone from Williamsburg pottery, and that the company isn't going through the proper channels.

Director of Economic Development for York County tells 13News Now over the phone that they've had one briefing with the company's president's on the concept. James City County Administrator Bryan Hill says they have not been briefed.

About 554 acres of the land is in York County, and 164 acres is in James City County according to Jim Noel, Director of Economic Development for York County.

Williamsburg Pottery Vice President Peter Kao declined to do an interview but says this is only an idea they have for the area and their land. He says their goal is to bring in more tourism.
