WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The "Ruth E. Carter Afrofuturism in Costume Design" at Jamestown Settlement opens to the public on Saturday, May 11.
Carer is a two-time Academy Award-winning costume designer for film and television. Her work includes some of the most iconic Black films.
The exhibit features costumes from across her career. You may recognize costumes from "Black Panther," "Selma," "The Butler," "Coming 2 America," "Malcolm X," "Roots," "Amistad," "Do The Right Thing," and "Dolemite Is My Name."
The new exhibit displays Carter's process, the historical research that went into her designs, the inspiration for her Afrofuturistic designs, and the intricate details of her costumes.
The exhibit will be on display at Jamestown Settlement until December 1st of this year and is included with admission into the museum.
