Federal funding to restore historic Sir Christopher Wren Building steps at William & Mary

The Sir Christopher Wren Building at William & Mary was constructed between 1695 and 1700.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Virginia's two U.S. Senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, announced more than $400,000 in federal funding to restore part of the oldest college building still standing in the U.S.

The Sir Christopher Wren Building at William & Mary was constructed between 1695 and 1700.

The funding will be used to restore the west steps of the building. The money was awarded through the National Park Service's Save America's Treasures grants.

"As the oldest college building still standing in the United States, the Wren Building at William & Mary has served countless generations of students, faculty, and community members," the senators said in a news release. "We’re glad to see this funding, which will help restore and preserve this National Historic Landmark, headed to Williamsburg."
