Man is dead after a car crash on I-64 in Williamsburg

Virginia State Police say that they investigated a crash around 8:20 p.m. on I-64 westbound at the 231A exit ramp which ended the life of a Williamsburg man.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A man is dead after a single-car crash in James City County on Thursday night.

Virginia State Police say that they investigated a crash around 8:20 p.m. on I-64 westbound at the 231A exit ramp.

According to their investigation, 44-year-old Scott Murray Thomason of Stone Bridge in Williamsburg was exiting the interstate in a 2014 Ford F350, lost control of the car on the exit ramp and ran off the road. 

The car went into a ditch and overturned several times before striking a tree.

Speed was a contributing factor in the crash and it's unknown if alcohol was also a contributing factor. Thomason was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.

Next of kin have been notified.
