WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A man and woman are dead after an apparent murder-suicide by gunfire in Williamsburg, city officials said on Thursday.
According to a news release from the city, the investigation began Wednesday around 7 p.m. when officers with the Williamsburg Police Department responded to a home in the 100 block of Cutspring Arch for a welfare check.
When they entered, the officers found a woman and a man, each with a single gunshot wound, officials said. They were pronounced dead at the home. The couple was identified as Norma Jean Clyde and Ury Eugene Clyde, both 87.
Officials said, after a preliminary investigation, police believe the husband shot his wife with a handgun before turning the gun on himself. The weapon was recovered at the scene.
There were also no signs of a struggle or forced entry and a suicide note was found at the scene, according to officials.
The shooting is still being investigated by the Williamsburg Police Department. A medical examiner will determine the official causes of death.
