WINCHESTER, Va. — A Winchester Police officer died on duty after his vehicle crashed Saturday evening, the department said.
Officer Hunter Edwards, 30, died after his car crashed around 10:50 p.m. on West Jubal Drive in Winchester.
Edwards was responding to a call of a fight on South Loudoun Street, Winchester Police said in a news release.
Edwards is survived by many family members including this wife, Tara, and stepson.
Winchester Police Chief John Piper addressed officers Sunday morning at the Winchester Medical Center where they had gathered to pay their respects.
“This is going to be a very difficult time for Hunter’s family and for each of us. Take care of yourselves; take care of each other,” Piper said.
Officer Edwards served the Winchester Police Department for four years assigned to the Patrol Division.
He was a member of the SWAT team and had also served on the Civil Disturbance Unit.
