VIRGINIA, USA — A man has died following the recent listeria outbreak, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported. VDH has identified him as a 65-year-old from Virginia's Eastern Health District.
Boar's Head, a famous lunch meat company, recalled 71 of its meat products due to the listeria outbreak.
The Maryland Department of Health tested unopened Boar's Head liverwurst and found Listeria monocytogenes.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 43 people have been affected by the outbreak strain of Listeria as of the last update on Aug. 8.
The CDC advises people not to eat recalled deli meat products. It also advises pregnant women, people aged 65 or older, and people who have weakened immune systems to avoid eating deli meat or heat them up before eating it.
