VCU alert advises of on-campus shooting

Students at the Richmond university were advised around 4:35 a.m. to stay indoors because of shots fired April 17.

RICHMOND --Virginia Commonwealth University students were advised to stay inside after shots were fired on the Monroe Park campus, according to an alert from the Richmond university.

The first alert, sent at 4:35 a.m., stated that shots had been fired in the 1000 block of W. Franklin Street.

About 30 minutes later, an alert advised everyone that they could resume normal activity.

Just before 6 a.m, VCU posted on its Website that gunshots were reported in the area of Harrison Street and West Franklin Street. Police responded, checked the area and nothing was found.

Officials restated that everyone should resume normal activity as police have increased patrols in that area. There were no reported injuries in connection to this incident.
