VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Democratic Sen. Aaron Rouse has announced he is entering the 2025 race for lieutenant governor of Virginia.
The former Virginia Beach Councilman, retired NFL player and current state senator said in a release: "I’ve built my career on winning in tough spots when it matters – whether it be under the glare of NFL lights or flipping the State Senate seat needed to ensure we blocked Republicans’ assaults on reproductive freedom and voting rights.
He continued saying, "Virginia is ready for a new generation of leaders to step up. That's why I am running to be the next Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia."
“Aaron Rouse represents the next generation of leadership that Virginia needs. We are making progress with our Democratic majorities in the General Assembly but not fast enough,” said Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Mamie Locke.
Aaron Rouse defeated Republican Kevin Adams for Virginia's newly drawn Senate District 22 race back in November of last year.
Rouse will potentially be running against Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears who is eligible to run again in 2026 and Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney, who announced Tuesday he'd also be running for the spot.
