KINGWOOD, Va. — Virginia State Police say two people were killed and dozens of others were critically injured in a charter bus crash on Interstate 95 in Prince George County near Kingwood.
Police tell news outlets the bus was carrying a total of 57 people when it crashed Tuesday morning. The Tao's Travel bus was reportedly traveling north from Orlando, Florida to New York City when it overturned on the exit ramp.
According to the investigators, speed is considered a factor in the crash.
Police say one person died at the scene and a second died a few hours later at a nearby hospital. Authorities haven't released their names.
Southside Regional Medical Center sent an update Friday, March 22 and said four patients have been treated and released, two were transferred out to other facilities and two remain at the center for further treatment.
The received a total of 9 patients from the bus accident, 6 men and 3 women, one of the women died before arriving.
Charges have been made against the driver, Yui Man Chow, 40, from Staten Island, New York. He was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. He is currently being held Riverside Regional Jail.
He was not injured during the crash.
State Police said family members of Tao's Travel bus passengers can call the Prince George Emergency Services Center at 804-733-2659 for information.
A Family Reunification Center has also been set up at the Prince George Central Wellness Center, located at 11023 Prince George Drive in Disputanta.
Police said the motor carrier safety team is assisting with the crash investigation. A representative with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is also on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
