RICHMOND, Va. — More than 200,000 adults are enrolled in Virginia's Medicaid expansion, according to Governor Northam.
On Friday, Northam announced the major milestone for the initiative that was approved last summer. All Virginians enrolled in Medicaid will have health coverage starting on January 1.
The coverage is available for men and women ages 19 to 64 who are not eligible for Medicare, and that meet the income requirements.
Applications for Medicaid in Virginia are accepted all year round.
“This bipartisan initiative has empowered men and women across the Commonwealth to take an active role in improving their health,” said Governor Northam in a press release. “The historic response from our citizens demonstrates the need for access to health coverage that will benefit our families, our communities and Virginia’s economy. I encourage uninsured individuals to learn more about this new health coverage opportunity and to apply today.”
The Cover Virginia Call Center received almost 170,000 calls since they started accepting Medicaid applications under the new eligibility rules on November 1.
