New system for the blind and visually impaired at Natural Bridge State Park

The "RightHear Accessibility" system allows visually impaired people to explore and engage with their surroundings.

NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. — Virginia's Natural Bridge State Park in Rockbridge County is now the first in the U.S. to create a fully accessible location for people who are blind or visually impaired.

The "RightHear Accessibility" system allows visually impaired people to explore and engage with their surroundings. Users can access audio instructions and directions through their smartphones. That will guide them to key points along the trail.

The information is available in 26 languages.

"This innovative technology ensures that all visitors to Natural Bridge State Park, regardless of their visual abilities, can experience the wonder of the Natural Bridge," said Virginia State Parks Director Dr. Melissa Baker in a news release. "We are committed to making our parks welcoming and inclusive destinations for everyone."
