Sussex County deputy pursuit leads to fatal motorcycle crash, says VSP

Virginia State Police (VSP) say they were contacted around 6:05 p.m. to investigate a motorcycle crash following a traffic pursuit

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. — A man has died after a motorcycle crash in Sussex County on Thursday following a pursuit by law enforcement.

Virginia State Police (VSP) say that they were contacted around 6:05 p.m. to investigate a motorcycle crash following a traffic pursuit with the Sussex County Sheriff's Department.

A deputy saw a motorcyclist driving a 2014 Aprilia motorcycle with no registration on Rolfe Highway.

When the deputy attempted to pull over 45-year-old James Farey of Elberon, he fled at high speed. As Farey fled the scene, he lost control and ran off the roadway, striking a ditch, sending the vehicle and Farey into the air and they landed in a wooded area.

Farey died on impact. His next of kin has been notified.

VSP says the crash is still under investigation.
