RICHMOND, Va. — All U.S. and Virginia flags will be flown at half-staff on Monday to honor and remember Officer Katie Thyne, who was slain in the line of duty in Newport News.
Governor Northam made the order on Friday that all flags across the Commonwealth will be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Monday, Feb. 2.
Thyne died after she was dragged by a car during a traffic stop last week.
Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew called Thyne "a true hero" and many in the community have memorialized her following her death.
Thyne's funeral takes place on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Lowell, Massachusetts where she was born. Several officers from Hampton Roads are expected to attend.
Alvirne High School in New Hampshire, Thyne's alma mater, held a candlelight vigil for her.
