Governor orders flags at half-staff for fallen Newport News officer Katie Thyne

Governor Northam ordered U.S. and Virginia flags to be lowered at half-staff on Monday to memorialize the memory of slain officer Katie Thyne.

RICHMOND, Va. — All U.S. and Virginia flags will be flown at half-staff on Monday to honor and remember Officer Katie Thyne, who was slain in the line of duty in Newport News.

Governor Northam made the order on Friday that all flags across the Commonwealth will be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Monday, Feb. 2.

Thyne died after she was dragged by a car during a traffic stop last week.

Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew called Thyne "a true hero" and many in the community have memorialized her following her death.
